Useful definitions:
*Seter = summer pasture farm in the mountains
**lynnbu=small house on a seter, often only one room, ,generally used when preparing for the next season’s stay at the seter, e.g. wood cutting, gathering reindeer moss or birch twigs for fodder, etc.



 

No. 1 Seter cottage, Gopollen

On the east side of the Gudbrandsdal valley, c.6 x 13m., at 980m above sea-level.
This C19th. house has original log walls clad on the outside and fully insulated.
Living room, kitchen & 2 bedrooms.
In the living room: dining table, cupboard, corner sofa and large wood stove. Kitchen newly fitted out with kitchen units, wall cupboard and 4 burner propane gas cooking facility. Bedroom 1 sleeps 4 : 1 double bed & 1 set bunk beds. Bedroom 2 sleeps 3. : 1 single bed, 1 set bunk beds. Paraffin heating.
Access: in summer, drive to the door. In winter, snow-cleared road to within 1200m.
Reliable water source at 100m.

There are several other buildings on the seter, - lynnbu **, cowshed and woodshed amongst others.

Situated in open terrain in a large, peaceful neighbourhood of seters, above the tree-line. Fine views towards Synnfjell, Jotunheim and Rondane mountains. The best view from an outside privy in Norway! Wide mountain plateaus. Possibility for hunting and fishing. Several mountain lakes in the vicinity. Berry picking in autumn. Excellent cross-country skiing on the plateau or on the Troll skitrail, c.1 km. distant.

No.2 Seter cottage, Sør-Stulen

On the east side of the Gudbrandsdal valley, 5.5 x 14.5 m. Original log walls with fully insulated interior panelling. Living room with open fireplace, small entrance hall, kitchen, 3 bedrooms each with 2 sets bunk beds, one with additional double bed. Sleeps 12 – 14 persons.
Stone sun-terrace at the front of the cabin.
Paraffin stove, keeps the whole cabin warm when heating has got properly underway.

All year access by road to the door.
Reliable water source nearby.

Situated in peaceful, open terrain with other seters in the vicinity, at the edge of the forest. Large mountain plateau behind the seter. Possibility for hunting and fishing. Berry picking in autumn: cloudberries, bilberries and cranberries.

Ringebu – Lillehammer, 60km.

No.3 Seter cottage, Venabygd

Cottage on the east side of the Gudbrandsdal valley, 50 – 60m?, 850m above sea-level.
Built c.1980. Timber-framed walls insulated for winter use.
Living room with open fireplace, kitchen and 2 bedrooms.
The living room has log walls from the original storehouse. Bedrooms sleep 6, one double bed plus single bunk over in each bedroom. Heating: woodstove, open fireplace.
Propane gas burner. Solar panel.

Wooden cowshed in which is the outside privy and wood shed.

Access: road to the door, snow-cleared to within 300m. or to the door if required, by prior arrangement.
Reliable water source nearby.
Situated in peaceful, open terrain in the forest belt. Large area of mountain plateau with extensive ski trails 1,5-2 km from the seter. Possibility for hunting and fishing. Berry picking in autumn : cloudberries, bilberries and cranberries.

No.4 Seter cottage, Skotten Seter

Lynnbu** on the east side of the Gudbrandsdal valley, c.5 x 8 m.
Suitable for 3-4 persons. Originally a log house, it has been clad with panelling both inside and out, with insulation in all walls excepting the bedroom, which has the original log walls. Small lobby, living room with wood stove, kitchen, larder and 1 bedroom with 3 beds. A fourth bed can be supplied.

Access: road, snow-cleared to within 300m. in winter.
Electricity installed.
Reliable water source at 50m.
Excellent ski trails, also connecting to the Troll skitrail.

No.5 Seter cottage, Stor-Tann Seter

On the east side of the Gudbrandsdal valley, 65m2 , 850m above sea-level.
Built c.1860, restored 1992 . Modern cabin toilet built on. Exterior wall-panelling with normal winter insulation. Living room with open fireplace, kitchen and 2 bedrooms with 2 double beds, loft area with sleeping space for 1 child. Heating: wood stove, open fireplace.
Propane gas burner. Solar panel.
Water source at 200m.
Access: by road to the door, snow-cleared in winter.

Situated in a large neighbourhood of seters, some still in use. There are several buildings on the seter, cowshed, lynnbu, etc.
The seter lies in the birch forest belt on the edge of a wide mountain plateau with a net of ski trails in winter. Possibility for hunting and fishing. Berry picking in autumn : cloudberries, bilberries and cranberries.

No.6 Seter cottage, Stor-Tann Seter

’Veslestua’ – ‘The little cottage,’ 65m2 – situated on the same seter as No.5 (above, also in the photo). Living room with original log walls from 1857. Cottage enlarged in 1978, with lobby, kitchen and 3 bedrooms. Sleeps 7. Cottage is fully equipped. Propane gas cooking. Solar panel.
Water source at 200m.
Access: by road to the door, snow-cleared in winter.

On the east side of the Gudbrandsdal valley, c. 6 x 15m, 850m above sea-level.
The original log walls from C19th. clad on the outside and fully insulated.
Living room, kitchen and 2 bedrooms.
In the living room: dining table, cupboard, corner sofa, open fireplace and wood stove. Kitchen: 2 kitchen units, wall cupboard and oil stove. Larder and small store room. Bedrooms sleep 8 with 2 sets bunk beds in each. Solar panel.
Outside privy.

Water: In summer a stream runs by the cabin. In winter, water source at 150m.
Access: In summer, by road to the door. Road is snow cleared to within 500m in winter. Level countryside between the parking place and the seter!

Nr. 10 Hus Fåvang:



No.11 Cabin: Steinslåbua, Fåvang Østfjell.

A small cabin, c.10m2, standing on its own by a (fishing) lake 1090m above sea-level.
Situated between Gudbrandsdalen and Østerdalen. Nearest seter is Gopollen, c.45min. on foot in summer, 2 hours in winter.
This cabin is of a simple standard, cosily equipped with a wood stove, propane gas burner, table and bunk beds. Sleeps (2?) Hvor mange – det står ikke i norsken.
Ideal for hunting, fishing, cloudberry picking or simply peacefulness – food for the soul!
The cabin lies on the reindeer migration route.

Distance between Gopollen and: Fåvang church c.20km, the centre of Fåvang 25km, Kvitfjell Alpine Centre 30km. Fåvang – Lillehammer 50km.

No. 12 Seter cottage at Bergstulen, venabygd

An old seter on the east side of the Gudbrandsdal valley, c.60-70m2, 850m above sea-level.
The cottage has exterior panelling and normal winter insulation. Living room with open fireplace, kitchen, hallway and 2 bedrooms. The living room has log walls, a large wood stove and an open loft space which can be used for sleeping, also an old, wide, short bed and a put-you-up sofa. Bedroom 1 has 2 single beds, bedroom 2, 1 single bed. Sleeps 5/7.
Kitchen and bedrooms have wood stoves. Propane gas burner. Solar panel.

Wooden cowshed houses the outside privy and the wood shed.

Access: road to the door, snow cleared to within 300m. or to the door, by arrangement.

No. 13 House at Brekkom

In the mountain village of Brekkom, 630m above sea-level.
The log walls are originally from a ‘tørrstue‘, a building used for drying grain, and dates from C17th.
The house, 78m2, is fully restored and insulated. The log walls are clad on the outside.
The living room has a fine original soapstone open fireplace and wood stove. Entrance hall has slate flagstones. Kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer and dish washer. Two bedrooms, sleep 6. Bathroom & WC with under-floor heating. T.V. Electricity. The house is fully equipped for 8 people.

This house is situated on a farm where a variety of animals are kept. There are fine views and sun all day.

Hexagonal grill-party cabin for hire.

This unusual and fine cabin is to be found at Nysetra, the seter belonging to Råtås farm. It lies on the west side of the Lågen valley, 3.5km from Gudbrandsgard Hotel at Kvitfjell and 14km from the E6 at Fåvang.

The cabin is 4m in diameter and has room for some 20 persons. The benches around the walls are covered with reindeer skins. In the middle is a large grill-fireplace where food may be cooked in various ways: by grilling, frying or boiling/simmering.

The cabin is hired out on a self-service basis. However, additional services can be ordered, such as heating up the grill, providing food and waitress service, if wished. The hire of this cabin is organised in such a way as to suit your requirements!
